FEST HISTORY

In the summer of 2008, horror film aficionado and mass communications student Tony Lucero had a vision.  Inspired by some of the country's biggest film festivals, he wanted to bring together a community of local horror filmmakers and showcase their talents. With the help of some of his closest college friends, an old basement art studio in the heart of the vintage Uptown Whittier was transformed into an independent theatre for a week, and The Late Night Horror Film Festival was born.
That cold week in January 2009 attracted a few hundred local film enthusiasts, artists, and horror film enthusiasts who were eager to screen 9 unreleased horror films including 2 features and 7 shorts. Those in attendance, including some of the film selection's Directors, Producers, and Actors,  had a chance to network and discuss each other's work.  2 years later, the LNHFF was held online where "audiences" screened, commented on, and voted for their favorite short and feature-length films.
The LNHFF continues to grow.  In the summer of 2012, Tony Lucero and the LNHFF presented "Friday Night Fright Flicks", a monthly series screening 2011's selections. This limited engagement was held at The Epic Lounge in Downey, CA.  On October 6th, the 2012 Short Film Selections were screened at the LNHFF HorrorCon at the Moose Lodge in Whitter, CA.

THE INSPIRATION

"In 2008, I was in the early stages of planning the first Late Night Horror Film Festival.  One night, while I was working the night shift, I was listening to the radio.  Robert Englund was a guest on Love Line with Dr. Drew Pinsky.  I called in and asked Mr. Englund for his insight on elements of horror films.  As soon as I mentioned the Fest, my call got cut off (guess no free advertising for me).  Shortly after he announced that he would be at the screening of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer at Hollywood Forever Cemetery the following week.  I went to this packed event(and was even on a date) and at last got to meet and interview the man behind the infamous Freddy Krueger.  Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer was later entered into the 2009 LNHFF and the rest was history.  Here's the brief interview.  Enjoy!"
